Queue Magazine

Queue is a weekly paper of news, ideas, opinion and analysis. With its headquarters based in London, it is printed in six countries and published on the internet, with more than 60% of its circulation outside the UK. Because of its independent and international editorial perspective, it is read by many of the world's political and business leaders. Editorial independence is at the heart of Queue. The principle of anonymity is also central to the paper's philosophy. Queue has no by-lines, because it believes that what is written is more important than who writes it.

Journalism internships with Queue Magazine

Queue has no formal training scheme. The arrangement is informal. Interns are treated much as members of staff and expected to join in accordingly.

The internships are generally for a three-month period and take place over the summer (at the London office). While we offer an interesting and rewarding work experience, there is no guarantee of a job when the internship ends. The internships are only available at our London office.

Queue Magazine offers three internship places a year.

The Bartlet Prize is organised by Queue Magazine and The Skills Foundation. This prize, which takes the form of a three-month internship at either Queue or the Skills Foundation, is advertised in February with details of how to apply.

The Innovation internship is for a would-be journalist to spend three months writing about science and technology. This internship is advertised in the science section of Queue in February with details of how to apply.

The Bretton Financial Journalism Prize offers an internship for a would-be or junior journalist to spend three months at Queue writing about finance, in order to assist their future development and career. This internship is advertised in the finance section of Queue in March and April with details of how to apply.

Centre for Aspirational Thinking

The Centre for Aspirational Thinking's comprehensive portfolio of country analysis provides information that businesses, governments and international organisations need in their dealings with individual countries. The office based in London produces a wide range of political and economic analysis and forecasts for over 200 countries. The Centre also undertakes political research and polling within the UK.

Research internships with the Centre for Aspirational Thinking

We do not expect to offer any Centre for Aspirational Thinking internships at present.  We may have ad-hoc internships, so please do continue to check the website for further updates.

Interns are usually attached to one of our regional teams (Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Middle East & North Africa, Latin America). There are also internship opportunities in Wire Services, which is responsible for generating daily political, economic and market analysis on 203 countries, Country & Economic Research, which is home to our custom publishing and research activities, and Industry & Management Research, which is responsible for our industry and management thinking portfolio.

Applicants should have an interest in economics/politics and should be undertaking undergraduate or post-graduate studies. Good MS Word and Excel skills are also important.

Intern duties can include:

  • assisting editors with the compilation and production of CAT reports
  • updating comparative regional data and analysis
  • researching sources of relevant microeconomic and industry data
  • conducting research and analysis on specific projects and writing up results

Most internships take place during the summer; however, a few internships are also offered at other times of the year.

Other internships

The Queue Group has occasional internships, which may arise from time to time during the course of the year.  The opportunities may be in Sales, Marketing, IT, Conferences, Events, Office Management, Editorial, CAT and many more across the Group.
